Sixth Graders Collaborate on European Market Project

Two girls showcase their display of Greece

Orchard 6th-grade students concluded their school year with an engaging social studies market project that transformed their classroom into a global marketplace. During the final week of school, students collaborated on research presentations showcasing countries from around the world.

The project enabled students to dive deep into various aspects of international cultures and geography. Student displays featured comprehensive information about Portugal's democratic government system and rich cultural traditions, while others explored Sweden's abundant natural resources and historic landmarks. As they visited each country's display, students recorded reflections and facts in personal Passports to help them compare and contrast the cultures, governments and other areas studied.

Beyond sharing educational facts and creating colorful poster presentations, students brought their countries to life through authentic cuisine. The classroom filled with the aromas of Belgian chocolates, British apple crisp, and Swiss cheese fondue as students offered taste tests to their classmates.

The collaborative project demonstrated students' creativity and teamwork skills while providing hands-on learning about global cultures. Through their research and presentations, the 6th graders served as cultural ambassadors, sharing knowledge about diverse nations and their unique characteristics with their peers.

The social studies market project exemplified how experiential learning can make academic subjects more engaging and memorable for students as they wrap up another successful school year.
